![]() The game’s striking minimalism is an intentional rejection of the industry’s proclivity for pointless and boring objectives/gameplay elements, distracting and wasteful achievements, and hamfisted narratives in titles that would be perfectly fine without them. The Witness is fundamentally a critique on the video game industry it simply happens to be in the form of a video game, as that is the most effective medium through which Jonathan Blow could have expressed his thesis. It’s easily one of the best puzzles games in my library and I’d recommend it to almost anyone in a heartbeat. What makes it stand out is the quality and difficulty of its levels, the way that it develops their mechanics, and the light philosophical considerations mixed in with the gameplay. I think it’s well written, the puzzles are good, and it looks pretty. The Talos Principle aims to be a normal, thoughtful video game. I don't know for sure why only a handful of games do it to me, but man.I actually had a panic attack the first time it happened because the symptoms came over me SO quickly I thought maybe I had a brain tumor or something as I'd heard of people very suddenly getting dizzy and such and finding out they were dying. For Deadspace, when I increased the FOV and put a sticker on my screen to act as a central focus, my motion sickness mostly went away. They also often don't have aiming reticles, which is another way to focus your vision. With exploration/puzzle games, you're swinging the camera around a lot and especially if the game has a narrow FOV, that can create motion sickness. In something like say.overwatch, you're kind of focused on aiming and see other stuff on the periphery of your vision. I think the big link in the first few are that you're looking all around a lot, rather than focusing on sort of the center of your screen. The other games I've got sick from are The Witness, Deus Ex HR, Antichamber, and Dead Space. Just wanted to add my voice as someone who very very rarely gets motion sick from games (not even stuff like Descent) and who got super sick from this.
